Why is counseling important and what can it do for me?

Counseling provides individuals with a safe and supportive space to explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences. It offers a non-judgmental environment where people can express themselves freely and work through challenges they may be facing. Through counseling, individuals gain valuable insights into their behaviors, patterns, and triggers, empowering them to make positive changes in their lives. Moreover, counseling equips individuals with coping mechanisms and tools to manage stress, anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns effectively. It fosters self-awareness and self-compassion, promoting personal growth and development. Ultimately, counseling serves as a beacon of hope, guiding individuals towards greater emotional well-being and a more fulfilling life.

How long will I need counseling?

Length of counseling varies from person to person. Some people need it for a brief time to work out an acute struggle, others find benefit in continued counseling throughout their life. It is dependent on what struggles you are facing and what goals you have.

How long are sessions?

Sessions are 45-60 minutes.

How much does counseling cost? Do you take insurance?

The cost of a counseling session is dependent on your insurance benefits. I am in network with many insurance companies, which are listed on my billing page. If your insurance is not listed, I also offer self pay options. It may be a good idea to call your insurance company to find out what your benefits are before scheduling an initial appointment.

What do we do in counseling?

Counseling sessions can involve a variety of interventions and activities depending on the needs and preferences of the individual seeking counseling. I will initially get history and background, from there, we will set goals, and then I will utilize interventions to assist with skill building, reflection, developing insight, and most importantly, achieving your goals. Clients may also be assigned tasks to complete or skills to practice between sessions. Overall, counseling sessions are tailored to the unique needs and goals of each individual client. I will provide guidance, support, and expertise to facilitate positive change and growth.

What if I don’t want to talk about something?

Counseling is designed to create a safe space to talk about anything that you are dealing with, without fear of judgement. However, some topics are more difficult than others. It’s okay if there are certain topics or aspects of life that you are not ready or comfortable to discuss. Let your counselor know by simply saying “I’m not ready to talk about that right now” or “I’m not comfortable discussing that yet”. Your boundaries will be respected.
