About Trisha
I was born and raised in Lincoln, NE. I grew up loving music and pursued my undergraduate degree in Music and Advertising. In my early twenties I was confronted with the profound impact of mental health and addiction challenges in my own family and personal life. After attending counseling sessions, I realized the power of saying things out loud. Motivated by this revelation, I returned to school at Doane University to earn my Masters in Counseling degree.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with friends and family (which includes my 2-year-old Pomapoo Bennie!) I love coffee and am always up for trying a new coffee place. I also enjoy road trips and traveling, the Colorado mountains are my happy place.

My Approach
I believe in integrated healthcare and developing a team to work together in treating the whole person. If we determine that my communicating with your other healthcare providers such as General Practitioner, Psychiatric medication provider, etc. would be of benefit to you and your treatment, I will have you sign a Release of Information for those providers. Some other examples of people I may communicate with on your behalf are family members, probation officers, and attorneys. Again, you would sign a Release of Information and we would discuss this before I contact anyone.
I also believe in living a balanced life. I feel it is important to look at all areas of your life; educational, occupational, physical health, mental health, hobbies, relationships, spirituality, etc. to see how you are utilizing your time and energy in each area.
The Counseling Process
The process of healing and change will look different for each person. Some people will find immediate relief from emotional pain and sense progress with each session. Yet for others, it could appear that things are getting worse before they improve. This should not be a reason to quit, or think that no progress is being made, as pain and dysfunctional patterns often need to be magnified and made clear before positive change can occur.
The treatment planning process begins with a client background information survey and collateral interview completed with the client. Evaluation and Assessment will address mental health needs and other co-occurring disorders that concludes with a formal diagnosis and individualized treatment/recovery plan.
Treatment planning is person centered with every client having an individualized treatment/recovery plan developed with their active participation. The treatment plan is prepared with the information from the assessment and based on your strengths, needs, abilities and preferences. Treatment/recovery planning focuses on wellness and recovery, integration or inclusion into the local community, the family, natural support systems, and other needed services. The treatment/recovery plan is updated on a regular basis.
Planning for transition and discharge begins by identifying the criteria for discharge in your treatment/recovery plan and working toward achieving your treatment goals. After stabilization and maintenance has been achieved, we will begin a phase out plan for services that will begin preparing you for discharge. A final treatment session will be utilized to bring closure for you and me as your counselor once discharge criteria have been met.
